Influenced by the Pamba River and the Kuttanad region, an agriculture-based rural lifestyle developed here. Paddy cultivation, coconut farming, banana cultivation, and vegetable farming became the main sources of livelihood for the people.With the strengthening of the Gram Panchayat system in Kerala as part of local self-governance, Thalavady Grama Panchayat was established.
